Tired of Dreaming

Dreams are wonderful – they give me hope for a better life, an optimism to get through the day, a feeling of power in my potential.  But dreams are not enough, they can only get me so far.

And yet I find I’m still procrastinating.  I’m still thinking about my dreams, rather than living them.

I don’t know how to get myself out of this funk of waiting for something to happen that will make living my dreams possible.  I know that if I keep waiting, I will forever be only waiting, and I want more, so, so much more than that.

So I’m asking you, how do I stop simply waiting for my dreams and start chasing them?  I want to hear your stories and any nuggets of wisdom you can share to get me to stop procrastinating so I can deliver all the amazingness I know I have inside of me.

I am tired of being scared.

I am tired of feeling lost.

I am tired of simply dreaming.

Hey Tamara,
It's so good that you have dreams. You should applaud yourself just for that, seriously. It's so easy to live in negativity and stop dreaming, just to give up. No matter how tempting that might seem, I never want to go back to that place. For a long time, too long, I just accepted life would never change.

For me achieving my dreams starts with baby steps, so if I want to travel somewhere but think I'll never afford it, I'll start a change jar because you never know where it might take you. Like you said, if we never start, then we'll never get there. I really want to be a writer so instead of thinking how I'll never be well enough to work for a magazine or something I started a blog and began writing for my uni newspaper. The next step for me is not just thinking about entering creative writing competitions but actually doing it.

I know I'm rubbish at writing back, but if you want to run some of your dreams and ambitions by me, I'd love to help you think of how you can start taking steps towards achieving them. Just e-mail, Tweet, write, whatever you want:)

Love Katie xx

Hi Tamara.

I really do recognise a lot of what you've spoken about in this post about fear and feeling lost.

One thing that I've done to combat these feelings has been to start making a conscious effort to recognise my achievements. I made an achievements book where I can write all the little and big things I achieve. By recognising small things, I found that my mindset was changing. I started becoming more productive. The more I recognised my achievements, the more I seemed to achieve.

Then on days when I felt like I was lost, or not going anywhere, I could look back in my book and appreciate how far I had come.

Another thing I've found useful, specifically in terms of combating fear, is to speak words of affirmation over myself. When I feel scared I repeat to myself "I am more than a conqueror". When I'm struggling with depression I remind that "I am not silenced by the darkness". Those are just ones I find most appealing. You could do it with anything.

I hope you find some of that useful. I'm looking forward to reading ,ore of your blog!
